FERRET Armored Scout Car

The Ferret armored scout cars were built for the British army from 1950 to 1970. They saw service with U. K. forces as late as the Gulf war and remain in service today with dozens of foreign countries.

They are one of the most successful post WWII light armored vehicles ever built. Designed by the Daimler company and powered by a six-cylinder Rolls Royce gasoline engine, the Ferret weights about four tons. It is capable of speeds exceeding fifty miles an hour and climbs extremely steep grades. The MK 2/3 as shown here is armed with a .30 caliber Browning Machine Gun inside a fully rotating turret.

For film and television, Ferrets have been used to play numerous armored vehicles from World War II and later __ German armored cars, SDK 221 & 222, British Dingo, Mk1 Fox, Daimler, and Italian SPA AB 41 could all be portrayed by modified Ferrets with at least 85% accuracy.
